Hello World Out There World!
Wow… it has been a while since I posted. I missed two Thinking Thursdays and two Old Word Fridays… I’m such a terrible person…
At the moment I’m trying to settle into a new routine which has really buggered up my writing time. Normally I can write in the morning or the evening but when I get around to it now I’m either too tired or unmotivated to attempt writing anything on this page.
I’m sorry to say that at the moment my writing has taken a back-seat to my current life situation and yes, that is a problem. I’m trying to fix that as fast as I can because writing is very important to me. It helps me escape and helps me explore new ideas. Writing matters a lot to me.
As bloggers yourselves writing probably plays a big role in your lives as well. What we write and share with the world matters in some way. It may matter to a few readers or just to us but we wouldn’t have written something on an online platform if it didn’t have meaning. That’s the same with writing a book or short story. Somewhere inside us told us that this story was important and needed to be shared. You crawl at the words and climb up those paragraphs in hopes of finding out why your soul has chosen this story of all your story ideas to be shared. Somewhere inside you you knew that what you were writing mattered.
At least that’s how I feel when approaching my series. There is something special about it. I’m not just writing for the heck of it but because something I’m writing, let it be the characters or the themes, are important and need to be shared.
So, I will try to get back to a more regular schedule now and hopefully I’ll be able to post more for all of you to enjoy.
Until next time – toodles!

Why can’t life just understand not to get in the way of writing time? 😉
I am sure that you will find a way to make it work, and I hope the life stuff getting in the way isn’t awful. Happy writing!

Thanks. Things are slowly working out. It’s just getting back into a schedule and to make a new plan on when I can write. Sometimes it is hard to balance everything you want to do with everything you need to do. 🙂

I like to take the opposite tack, at least for first drafts. When you write like it doesn’t matter, you can put down basically anything. It helps with writer’s block, in that if you write enough nonsense, eventually sense starts spilling out, and it helps with time crunch, because when you have an idea and just can’t quite put it into words, at least you have something to work from. (An outline when it’s too short; a first draft if it’s about the right length; scenes you can excerpt and move somewhere else when it’s too long.) Of course, I guess you could also put this: Write like it doesn’t matter; edit like it does.
But I usually overthink things when I write, and sometimes I have to just pretend I’m playing with alphabet blocks.

I can see how that can be helpful. My issue when it comes to writing is drive. I need to be driven to write and continue working on one project. If I lose that drive I stop working on that piece and move onto another project. Forcing myself to think that my work matters drives me – even thought my first drafts – to get to the end of a project. I love to write and writing isn’t the problem… it is just trying to keep my attention on completing a work that is my problem…
I like your approach though. I can see the benefits of not worrying what you get down as long as you get something down. Write first, worry in the editing process later. 🙂

I try to keep my momentum by using a bullet point list of things that need to happen (it’s not even always things: sometimes it’s ‘and make sure you give so-and-so a personality quirk here’), because I definitely have the same issue of losing traction if I move onto something else. Of course, then people ask you what the ‘main theme’ of your work is, and it can be hard not to take it too literally and try to say just one thing….

I do that closer to the end of my first draft. I break down chapters into important point I need to hit and work through writing the chapter by completing each point. When I first started writing I would bullet point everything… I don’t know why I moved away from doing it since it was helpful with keeping on tract. XD

When people ask what my “main theme” is I turn it back and ask them what they think it is. I find their answers interesting and allows me to find out why they think like that and possibly get back on track in the next book. 🙂

I certainly understand where you are with life situations disrupting your writing time. The last three months have been that experience for. However, I made my commitment at the beginning of the year and I am back on track. Writing is critical for me. Be encouraged knowing that it happens to us all.

I’m slowly getting back in the grove of things now. This week has been a huge flip in my writing progress, which I’m happy about. 🙂
