Concept Art for Emery Thermae

A while back I had the very talented Masha draw up a image of the Prophecy Six main character Liora. Since I loved her style and the way the image turned out I asked her to draw the other member of the Six who has been revealed in book 2- Children of Sirphan. I couldn’t wait to share her with you and I can’t wait to hear what you think. Without further delay, here is the concept art for Emery Thermae – the Child of Water and second of the Six.

Character Build: Emery Thermae

Some of you have started to read book two, while others haven’t gotten around to reading it. Either way, you will likely hear about Emery Thermae. She is the second member of the Six – the child of water. Her character was an interesting challenge and has grown into one of my favourites. With a history as Menk’s draper apprentice, Emery has a passion for making and creating new outfits for herself and others. She is a little bit of a prude, unable to understand why Liora likes to tend to other peoples problems when it is clear she has her own issues to deal with. Emery is forward and loves to tease people – especially Cael and other male peers. As the second of the Six she is the support character for Liora. She is Liora’s big sister and first female friend closer to Liora’s age. Although the two girls have different personalities and interests, they stand by one another and clearly have a connection.

It took a while to develop Emery’s physical appearance. I knew I wanted the two girls to be opposites. Liora has dark hair, darker skin, and a tomboyish personality. Emery has hair light hair, light skin, and a girly personality. Both girls are set in their ways, but both run into barriers in society. Liora is facing gender policing for wanting to take part in “boy activities”, while Emery is being ostracized for being the person she wants to be. As time goes on Emery will grow into a stronger character and in her own way become her own kind of badass.

Fun fact: Thermae was a name for a facilities for bathing in ancient Rome. As Emery’s parents owned the local bathhouse in Menk, her last name is reference to her parents’ business. 🙂

Now, what was the character design I made for Emery?

Character Build: Foe

This week’s character build is focused towards one of my most well liked characters of the Prophecy Six Series though far. He is a father figure, friendly, and at times childish but his good heart makes up for his short comings. He is a loving husband and a good father to his son. This week’s build is for Foe, Steward of Derm and Lord of Demor. So, let’s see the build:

Character Build: Cáel

Hello everybody!

This week on Character Build I’m focusing on the best friend to the main character and Prince of the North – Cáel. As many in the north have ginger hair and light complexion it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Cáel follows suit. With his curly ginger locks, pale skin covered in freckles, and strong bone structure similar to his father it is clear Cáel’s a Northerner. Here’s the build I made for reference. Enjoy! ^.^

Character Builds: Liora

When it comes to writing about characters sometimes it’s helpful to have a general collection of images to reference. I use this as a resource and it is easy to add to it with each book I create. Today I’m focusing on the main character of the Prophecy Six SeriesLiora – as she is the one with the most description and is in all sense the most important of the characters to get the details right with. So, here is the character build I made for her:

Her clothing style may change and as the book continues there will be new scars I’ll have to add for reference but for the first book this is what I had planned. These images help me visualise the character and make them consistent through the pieces I’m constructing.

I made this in MS Paint and I’ve found it very helpful compared to my old method of hunting through my notes or books for the details I’ve written about her. I hope this method will help some of you in your writing process when approaching character creation. 🙂
