I have finally gotten around to updating

It has been a while since I talked about my third book of the P6 Series… but yes it is still happening!

I have been working my butt off trying to get some of it done between my busy schedule. I am currently on chapter three, and like always, Liora’s curiosity is getting the better of her.

The question is, will the King of the South be as forgiving as the King of the North?

You’ll have to wait and see. ^.^

World of Gaitan: The Fellowship of Flesh

In the world of Gaitan there are many diverse and wondrous things; one of which are the fascinating groups. This week we will be showing you a quote from the official lore website about the group called The Fellowship of Flesh:

The Fellowship of Flesh is a group commonly known as specializing in medical advancement found in the University of La’reen. There of course are two secs, one of which gets little attention in fear of what the public would say. This second unknown group is the Brotherhood of Flesh in the Temple of Chaos found in the Southern Capital of Syder. Both groups originated in the Temple of Chaos about 2000 years before the present day. Their focus was the create preventative medicines due to overpopulation and long-term exposure to the battlefront. It was about 1260 years before the present day that the Fellowship split in two – one moving to La’reen (Fellowship of Flesh) and one staying hidden within the Temple (Brotherhood of Flesh). With La’reen’s drive for peace and dedication for the betterment of Gaitan they continued to focus on ways to improve the lives of those around them. They permitted those desiring to specialize in medicine to come to the city no matter their background – Dermite, Chijin, Mix Breed, or what have you. This was the birth of a new University in the South allowing for a united education system, which was the first of it’s kind.

World of Gaitan: The Hanging Boatmen

As many of you know I have an official lore site for my book series – Prophecy Six – where I write extra information about the cities, peoples, and histories of the world the series takes place in. You get to learn about the characters mentioned in the series and the creatures which are unique to Gaitan, along with some hints to things not yet mentioned in the books published so far. One of these groups is ‘The Hanging Boatmen’, who will be introduced in the third book – Sons of Lost Kings.

I thought I’d share a little bit about this group and link to the full description found on the official site if anyone is interested in reading more. Enjoy!

Hanging Boatmen is a group of Dermite bandits and thieves that raid the waterways between Derlin (Derm’s Capital) and King’s Port. They are believed to be responsible for the majority of the crime within the capital city and have claimed several heinous actions such as setting fire to the logging camps near Bay’s Lake, the hanging/plundering/burning of several shipping vessels within the shipping channel, raiding the armoury in the lower district of the capital city, and the kidnapping/murder of Lieutenant Rowel Brickton of the Gryphon Guard’s wife and daughters.

Concept Art for Emery Thermae

A while back I had the very talented Masha draw up a image of the Prophecy Six main character Liora. Since I loved her style and the way the image turned out I asked her to draw the other member of the Six who has been revealed in book 2- Children of Sirphan. I couldn’t wait to share her with you and I can’t wait to hear what you think. Without further delay, here is the concept art for Emery Thermae – the Child of Water and second of the Six.

How I Came Up With Names For My Fantasy World

Hello Everyone!

When I comes to world building picking out names for the places, people, and things can be a challenge. Sometimes there isn’t a story behind a name for a location on the map or a name just pops into your head that will, ‘work for what I have planned’. Today I’m going to talk to you about how I came up with the names for my fantasy world and maybe my methods will help you build yours.

Let’s starts at the beginning with the name of the world – GAITAN.

When I first started writing about this world back in grade eight the world was called Arrogwin and was much less developed/ much smaller. Over time, and years of improving my writing skills, I decided my world needed a face-lift and along with that face-lift would be a name change.

Gaitan is a massive planet. You can’t tell as you – at the moment – only see one continent due to the lack of technological development and other barriers (Western Mountains). The series Prophecy Six takes place on this one continent and there isn’t much talk about even knowing if there are others out there. To those of this first continent they believe they are the only people in the world of Gaitan, but they would be wrong. More on that at a later date.

When I came to thinking of the name for Gaitan the process was pretty much, how would I describe the world? Giant Earth. What’s another name for earth? Gaia. What’s another word for giant? Titan. Combine the two words – gaia and titan – and Ta Da you got yourself Gaitan.

Once the name for the world was made I created the map for the continent. I wanted to see the visual before I went around naming things. I knew I wanted dessert lands to the south, rocky lands to the north, mountains in the west and east, and lots of water. After playing around with some ideas – also flipping North and South so North is down and South is up – I got a map I was relatively happy with:

goodmapfull

That’s when I went around placing circles where I wanted my capitals or cities, squares where I wanted smaller settlements like trading posts or villages, and later on I started placing X’s where battles were fought.

For the most part I reused the names for the North, South, and East. Derlin, Syder, Arrowgrav, Arrowhilm, and Calin were names I came up with in grade eight… which I honestly don’t remember how I came up with them but I liked them enough to keep. Other names like King’s Port, Stone Creek, Yorn, and Bay’s Lake were all references to places I read about or grew up near. Stone Creek is reference to Stony Creek, Ontario. Bay’s Lake is a reference to Thunder Bay, Ontario. Yorn is reference to the Norn, which is the race I usually play in Guild Wars. King’s Port is reference to the Port of Montreal in Montreal, Quebec as it is one of the major shipping ports in Canada.

Places like La’reen, Mispick… and many others were created from random thoughts in my head or from things my characters would say. Sometimes I would be writing and my characters would throw out a random location and the name would stick. The majority of the locations on the map as like that, but over time I’ve made up backstories for all of them. Some of these backstories I’ve even shared on the Prophecy Six Official site – FOUND HERE.

So, to recap:
  1. Combine two words into one – Gaia + Titan = Gaitan
  2. Find real life influences: Stone Creek vs. Stony Creek, Ontario
  3. Let your characters guide world creation, (they live in the world after all).
  4. If all else fails, make it up.
Anyways, that’s all I have for today. If you have any questions leave them in the comments down below. If you liked this post or want to read more like or follow me. Until next time, remember, stay safe, be creative, and as always toodles!

Character Build: Emery Thermae

Some of you have started to read book two, while others haven’t gotten around to reading it. Either way, you will likely hear about Emery Thermae. She is the second member of the Six – the child of water. Her character was an interesting challenge and has grown into one of my favourites. With a history as Menk’s draper apprentice, Emery has a passion for making and creating new outfits for herself and others. She is a little bit of a prude, unable to understand why Liora likes to tend to other peoples problems when it is clear she has her own issues to deal with. Emery is forward and loves to tease people – especially Cael and other male peers. As the second of the Six she is the support character for Liora. She is Liora’s big sister and first female friend closer to Liora’s age. Although the two girls have different personalities and interests, they stand by one another and clearly have a connection.

It took a while to develop Emery’s physical appearance. I knew I wanted the two girls to be opposites. Liora has dark hair, darker skin, and a tomboyish personality. Emery has hair light hair, light skin, and a girly personality. Both girls are set in their ways, but both run into barriers in society. Liora is facing gender policing for wanting to take part in “boy activities”, while Emery is being ostracized for being the person she wants to be. As time goes on Emery will grow into a stronger character and in her own way become her own kind of badass.

Fun fact: Thermae was a name for a facilities for bathing in ancient Rome. As Emery’s parents owned the local bathhouse in Menk, her last name is reference to her parents’ business. 🙂

Now, what was the character design I made for Emery?
