Word Counts and Part Reflection

bookthreeupdate

Almost done part one… I know I said that last time but my Gods it is taking longer than I planned. Still, I am proud to announce that I’m at 19k… which is 9k more than my last update.

I also got an amazing image drawn of the new Six – Gornard Stoneborn (AKA: Red) – who you will get to meet in the new book. He’s interesting and I can’t wait to explore his character further once I get to the part he enters. That… will likely be in a few more weeks. Here is the image of him:
Gornardcloseup.jpg

He was drawn by the very talents Masha (here information found HERE). Masha has been my go to artist for all my other Six concepts (Liora and Emery). I have nothing but praise for her talents and can’t wait to have her draw my other three members once I get working on their books.

Oh! I also reached 130 followers on Instagram. Fun… since I have only started regularly posting on that. It has taken me a while to get an grasp on what I should be sharing and I still have little ways to go before I’m at my personal goal. I also need to find ways to boost my book exposure on Amazon, so if any of you have suggestions leave them in the comments below.

I think that’s about it for now…

Weekly update out!

Until next time – toodles!

Expanding the world of Gaitan one story at a time

bookthreeupdate

So, I’ve realized that I write a lot that doesn’t make it into the books I publish. These could be scenes that I’ve cut out, or scenes I’ve created that just never make it to the final draft. I have even written small stories about the adventures of characters that will never be granted the pleasure of being part of the Prophecy Six Series asides from being briefly mentioned in one of Liora’s books of choice in some random chapter.

That changed today.

As I was working on book three – SoLK – I came up with an idea for a short story that followed Liora and her interactions with the Southern King’s dragon. For those that know, Liora is an animal person. She fell for the feathery bird-lions of the north and grew up with the scale wing snakes of the south. No creature can escape Liora’s desire to show them love, no matter how hard they may try. That is why I had to write this short story… which had now led me to a rabbit hole that I cannot escape from.

I know I should be working on SoLK, and I’m almost done Part One, (super psyched about that), but these short stories are opening my mind to the world I created in a whole new way. I’m learning the history of the world and how certain cultures were shaped. I’m taking key figures mentioned in the books, (Evrin, Berk, Kanrow, and of course Har), and turning them into stand alone adventures away from the P6 Series. I’m exploring personalities and places that I never would have imagined, all because of the idea of writing short stories.

I don’t know where this is going to go, but I’m having too much fun to stop.

Anyways, back down the rabbit hole I go! XD

Until next time – toodles! ^.^

Bring You Trouble

loveyou

“I know you care and that you’re hurting but…” he took her hand, “I know you love me too.”

He held her eyes, hands trembling in hers. She knew he was hoping for her to say those words but they wouldn’t grace her tongue. She loved him, she really did… but she was afraid.

“Being with me will only bring you trouble,” she breathed. Her eyes falling to his hands that tightened at those words. “I’m not a person who can stay in one place…”

Dialogue Prompt: Sacrifice Happiness

He leaned against the windowsill, looking out towards the city below. The cool breeze chilled his arms while he gripped the stone railing, contemplating what he had done earlier that morning. He had expected her to come by or at least say something to him about what he had done, but there he was alone like he had been every day since the Northern Prince’s arrival.

There came a knock on the door as his heart fluttered in hopes of seeing the woman appear. As it opened, and his God-brother walked in, all his excitement faded away back to the solemn numbness he had been feeling. The large man lumbered over, kicking the pile of clothes that littered the middle of the bedroom floor before settling on the edge of Revris’s bed. He said nothing, all the large man did was sit in silence and stare.

“What?” Revris growled, watching his God-brother roll his eyes and sigh. What did he do to deserve that reaction.

“If yah think yar actions this mornin’ impressed ‘er, yah’re more of an idiot than I thought.” Gornard grumbled, picking something out of his teeth before leaning back on the bed. “I just came from ‘er room. She ain’t happy wit’ yah.”

“Well… this is my fault. She’ll be happy once I go through with it. Her happiness is all that’s important to me right now.” Revris spat, turning his back to his God-brother.

“Yah’re willin’ to sacrifice yar happiness for her happiness?” Gornard stood, making his way to stand beside the man near the railing. He watched Revris’s shoulder sink, before hearing him chuckle.

“When you say it like that, it does sound silly…” He sighed, pressing the bridge of his nose between his thumb and index finger.

“Have yah thought that yar happiness is what makes her happy?” Gornard noticed the man look up with knotted brows. It appeared that thought hadn’t even crossed his mind. Revris was searching Gornard’s face, as if to try and find the seriousness in the answer.

“Well… hell… I didn’t think of that…”

Nightmares of Editing

It has to be done but I’m dreading it.General Atmosphere - 2014 SXSW Music, Film + Interactive Festival

Editing.

Ugh… editing.

No, matter how much I love writing there are parts of it that irk me. I’ve done the easy part of writing the damn thing but now I have to go back to make necessary changes. This could be sentence structure, story flow, grammar, punctuation… and if you read my blog posts – which I tell you right now I don’t really edit – I need help in all of those listed.

Sometimes it’s funny when I re-read a section of my book and know exactly how my mood was.

“Ah, yes… chapter 5 and 6 must have been the days I got a proper amount of sleep. 7 to 10… was I writing drunk… I really need to stop that…”

So… yeah… necessary changes are necessary for my final written product.

Editing I understand is important. I was the kid in school told to edit my work all the time and didn’t… which could have meant a grade upgrade from a B average to a A average… but I know kids don’t listen to their teachers. I’ve been a teacher and you can go blue in the face trying to get a kid to listen to you but if they choose not to… well good luck. I would like to call that Karma by the way.

Now, with my focus at the moment on creative writing and self-publishing my work I have to pay attention to the process I dreaded all my life. Editing could change an okay book into a best-seller. Editing shows you’ve put time and effort into making sure your book reads well and flows well for your readers.

It took me 10 years but I appreciate editing even though I still hate it.

I honestly can’t believe this will be the second book I’ve written in less than a year that has entered this process. I actually can’t believe I’m willing to put myself through this torment for a second time…

Editing is pain people. It will all pay off in the end. When I am holding book two in my hands I will forget all the re-writing and re-reading that needed to be done to hold the final product. I’m also excited to think what you all think of the second book…

In truth – and I may be bias – I think the second book is better written and has more action. The characters are developed better and I think there is more suspense compared to book one… actually I know there is more suspense than book one. Liora is going to kick butt this book and gain new friends along her adventure.

Anywho, I have to go back to the dungeon of editing before I can send it off to be reviewed by my editor. Yes, I pre-edit my stuff… if I’m comfortable to send it to him that means it is close to being comfortable enough to get published.

That’s all for now.

Toodles. 🙂

Child of the Light, by D.M. Wiltshire: A Review

The wonderful Marian Thorpe wrote a review of my first book, and I have to say I was both surprised and pleased with the rating. Thank you, Marian. 🙂

Child of the LightChild of the Light is the first book by indie author D.M. Wiltshire. Falling squarely into the fantasy genre, Child of the Light is set in a well-realized world, Gaitan, where north and south have been at war for generations. Cael, the prince of the north, is suffering from an agonizing illness that is beyond the knowledge of the Master Healer, Caldor. The answer may lie in the medical knowledge of the province of Morza, but in one searing moment on the night of the 200 Year Moon, Morza – and all her people – are destroyed by a flash of light: a judgment from the gods, or a celebration gone horribly wrong?

When Caldor and his friend Foe go to investigate, they find two things: the healer Naygu’s book, hidden, safe, and written in a language Caldor can’t read, and the footsteps of a child, leaving the devastated city…

Update: Here’s Things You Should Know

tumblr_n515s2bmnj1s9ed8bo4_500

Okay, so I’ve been MIA for a while but I have reason for this. I am so so sorry I haven’t been gracing this blog with my presents as of late. I need to learn to balance my time better but I have so much going on in my life I’ve decided one big update should explain everything to you.

I’ve been in good spirits as of late and just have been really busy trying to find work since moving to a new city. Also I’m trying to finish book two. There are other reasons I’ve also been MIA but before that I want to let you know that I’ve updated the synopsis of book 2 if you are curious to know more about what the second book of the P6 series has to offer. CLICK HERE FOR THAT

Now onto my reasons:

|REASON 1|

Book 2 is almost done the pre-editing process and I’ve gotten to the point where I’m wanting to get peoples thoughts on what I’ve gotten so far. I set up a Wattpad account to do this in hopes of getting a variety of opinions, suggestions, and so on to improve my story.

|REASON 2|

I also have been MIA because I recently found out that someone wishes to turn my book into a visual novel giphygame… which I have to say is pretty exciting since I live for visual novel games. I’ve been spending a lot of time doing my own graphic design projects in hopes of getting the basic ideas for each character flushed out before the game crew takes over. If you want to see some character concepts you can check out my P6 Facebook Page.

I am super excited for this I can’t handle it. :3

|REASON 3|

For a while I’ve been debating on going with a self-publishing company to publish book 2, which has taken a lot of my free time researching which one would fit me. I also came to the conclusion that none of them fit me and I will likely publish on my own again… but I need to figure out ways of getting my book out there.

If any of you have some fun hints on self-marketing your book and are willing to share I’d love you for life!

|REASON 4|nudge-nudge-wink-wink-o

I have sent requests to a couple of book reviewers in hopes book 1 will be reviewed to gain more traction. We shall see what happens there since I haven’t heard anything from anyone yet. Keeping my fingers crossed for that one.

If you are looking for a book to review you are more than welcome to review mine.

All right, I think that’s it for now. If I have anything else to add I’ll do another update. Until then stay classy!! 🙂

(And no I don’t feel bad for using that many gifs in one post.)

Update: Child of the Light Smashwords Reaches 100 Downloads!

Firstly, all of you who have supported me throughout this process are amazing. Your support, suggestions, and comments make me look forward to posting on this blog.

With that said, I want to announce that book 1 of the Prophecy Six series has reached 100 downloads on Smashwords!reached101

I know 100 isn’t a big number but I’m so excited that my book has gotten this many downloads with so little marketing. Marketing isn’t my strong suit – being an introvert with a self-doubting complex doesn’t help – but wow! Wow! 100 downloads…

Well damn… I’m happy with that.

Anyways, Child of the Light is still FREE on Smashwords – so don’t be afraid to check it out if you haven’t already. If you have, you’re amazing and fantastic and thank you so much for taking the time to download this!

Without you – my readers and followers – Prophecy Six wouldn’t be as fun to work on. Again, thank you. 🙂
